No visit to the Riviera would be complete without a trip to Provence just a few miles away by car. Visit the myriad picturesque hill towns.  Shop in local markets. Marvel at the light that has attracted painters through the centuries.

 In August the lavender is harvested and the fragrance is everywhere, along with the hum of the bees.  Their honey is delicious too . #1

 

They use combine harvesters to collect the flowers, just like they do cereal crops, but smaller and specially adapted versions which cut a row at a time. Much of the output goes to Grasse where it is used in the manufacture of the famous perfumes.
