Leaving Frejus you park by the autoroute and walk the last mile-and-a-half to the damn. The damn Malpasset is the sight of one of France's greatest national disasters in recent years. The damn collapsed just a few years after it was built in the 1960s. The resulting tidal wave swept down the River Agens killing all before it. The collapse was blamed upon poor quality concrete and a resulting public inquiry led to many changes in French damn construction . #1
